Fun with the sun

In the beautiful sunshine, camera in the hand, I decided to have a bit of fun. I mixed the 2 ingredients, added silhouettes to the recipe...and checked to see if it was working...

Freeze!

Freeze!

You typically see frozen lakes in the very North of Europe, Russia, Canada, North of the USA...
In the south of Sweden, where I lived for 3 years, I got used to frozen lakes and appreciated how they integrate the ice in their winter activities and way of life. I saw people regularly ice-skate on lakes, do ice-fishing and other sport & activities. I even saw people walking on the ice with their pram and baby, and others enjoying "Fika" on the edge of the icy lake...

But in the south east of France, a lake freezes fully once every 15 years! So when the lake close to Lyon froze, as if Mr Freeze had just paid a visit, it quickly became an event for the local community. Every summer, this lake is the region's local beach. Hard to imagine for them that their beach got completely and utterly frozen. But it did.

On the photos below, I focused on the "ice" and hardened its image to make it look cold. It's a trial.

Music. I am.

Music. I realise that I am a music produce. My parents met at a music association event, where they both played traditional Breton music. Music was always played at home (Irish folk, Breton Trad, British & American 60’s & 70's stuff). During the holidays I was dragged to music shows and festivals. I particularly liked colourful shows with dancers responding to the rhythm of world music.

Today, my whole family is still involved with music.

They feel they have a mission. They discover, they listen, they learn, they play, they record and they share their passion. The following images tell the story of a guitar player who recently decided to try to learn the violin. It’s a tough instrument to grasp. He’s really into it. Can you sense it?

High Tranquility

Most people have a preference between the mountain and the sea. Personally, I prefer the sea. However, now that the sea is not so close to me, the mountains are giving me the opportunity to understand its spirit. So what is the mountain spirit? We each have our own interpretation of what it has to offer, the experiences, the culture, the architecture, the danger. Pretty safe to say that they offer gobsmacked views... and difficult ones to capture on camera.

I was fortunate enough to stay in a non-touristic village in the Alps and to grasp the atmosphere of living high up there. This series, taken in Longefoy, illustrates the peaceful way to appreciate the mountain spirit. Forget speedy skiers, the adventurous mountain trekking, or the real danger hanging above your head all the time. This is Taking it easy, Relaxing Mode, Appreciation of nature. Enjoy high tranquility.

Reddishly warmer

I only recently discovered the medieval village of Pérouges. You might have already seen the post "Ye Olde", aiming to age the place. This time, my objective was to revive the stones by giving it a warm & slight red tint. This is Pérouges.

Pérouges is one of the 156 "Plus Beaux Villages de France". The association regroups and identifies the most beautiful villages of France, with the aim to protect and promote their outstanding heritage (www.les-plus-beaux-villages-de-france.org/en/perouges).

Ye Olde Village

This is not Deep England. But a French historic village and an 11th century castle. Both touristic places in their own right.

The medieval feel of Pérouges village and Virieu castle inspired me to attempt deepening the "Ye Olde" look. From a photographic point of the view, it's the obvious thing to do, but I have to go through the obvious first before digging in further and let the creative juice do its thing.

A winter morning...

To follow on the recent post "Portrait in winter light - Dans la pâle lumière du matin d'hiver", let me present this series with Clara, model. This photoshoot was organised by the association, Image Contact, which I recently joined.

1 winter morning, 2 models, 8 cameras, 8 photographers and plenty of fun. People had brought various props and the bright orange umbrella had caught a lot of the photographers' attention.

Many thanks to Clara for her patience and for agreeing for this series to be published. You can discover her modeling work on Clara's site.
